Business Ups & Downs

Business Ups & Downs

Business ups and down

How is business going?

In life, as in business, things don’t always go to plan. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s a disaster, it just means that you may need to take a different road to your destination, or to change your destination completely.

In business there are ups and downs – just like in relationships. So when your relationship gets a bit messy, what do you do? You take a step back, evaluate where you are and where you’d like to be, you communicate, and you get started on getting things back on track – or you change direction. The same applies in business.

Be consistent in your business

I started my business 15+ years ago (wow, that seems like an eternity!). It wasn’t a well thought out plan. It wasn’t part of the grand scheme of how I wanted my life to be. It was a decision I made after a couple of personal things happened that totally changed my perspective on things. I was working in a very “safe” and “comfortable” environment and the thought of getting outside my comfort zone and getting into business didn’t scare me – because it never even crossed my mind! If that’s you at the moment, think about where you are and where you possibly could be. And there is a correct answer to this – and that’s “you could be anywhere you choose”!

Often I’m asked get the books of a business up to date and they’re a real mess. And it’s not that the previous person doing it has necessarily not known what they’re doing, but they haven’t known how to approach the work. The number one thing I teach business owners when doing their own books – there are a few ways to do things that will all get them the same end result. But if you’re consistent in your approach, things will work out a lot better in the long run. We can work out the technical errors easily, as long as you’re consistent!

Where is your business focus?

Focus on what’s important. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Keep the destination in mind, even if the journey to get there is going to change.

Life is full of ups and downs. You can make the downs your constant struggle, or you can learn from them, adjust with them, and let them steer you to your next business triumph!
